The Genesis

HARRY BECKETT has been a major figure on the British jazz scene for over two decades now. He is one of the most popular and highly regarded trumpet and flugel horn players in the country.

The Early Years On the UK Scene
Harry's early career was spent gigging and working in London nightclubs: his first major accolade came in 1961 when Charles Mingus came to Britain to make the film All Night Long, and chose Harry to play in his band. Since then he has worked as a studio musician as well as touring with a multitude of bands.
Harry's On the Go
In 1972 Beckett won the Melody Maker jazz Poll as Top Trumpeter in Britain. Harry's inventive and very personal playing has featured strongly in some of the best and most successful bands of recent years. He's played with Graham Collier's various groups: the John Surman Octet; New Jazz Orchestra; Mike Westbrook's Band; Ian Carr's 'Nucleus'; Stan Tracey's Big Band and Octet; Chris Eiton's Dean's 'Ninesense'; Dudu Pukwana's 'Zila'; Ronnie Scott's Quintet; Johnny Dankworth's Big Band; and George Gruntz's Bands
Playing For the World
Harry Beckett is at ease playing many styles of jazz from bebop to free improvisation and gig and guests with many line-ups; he is there a familiar and well loved face on the jazz scene currently in London and the Provinces. His professional, dedicated approach and warm personality are respected and appreciated by jazz fans, fellow musicians and critics.

His work has also been shared around the world, on the continent he's appeared at many Jazz Festivals in places like; Nice, Montruex, Imolo, Nancy, North Sea, Moers, Willisau, Bologna; as well as East and West Germany, he shared the sound of his horn with Austria, Belgium, Holland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Hungary, The Middle East and India.

Harry Beckett shares his talent with the young and old alike. When he has a break from his busy touring schedule he attends jazz workshops to lecture and gives lectures and recitals in schools and colleges all over the country.
